The LFA admission process consists of various steps. The first step is to request application materials, either through this web site or by calling 847-615-3267.
Lake Forest Academy enrolls 370 students each year in grades 9-12. About half are boarders and half are day students. We challenge our students, support them as they learn, and celebrate their achievements. LFA is a diverse community that attracts students from the Midwest, across the country, and around the world.
Scholarships
The Headmasters Scholars Program at Lake Forest Academy recognizes students of high academic achievement, outstanding character and excellent leadership potential. The Headmaster Scholarships are awarded each year to students who have demonstrated excellence in the classroom, in extracurricular activities and in participation at home and in their communities.
Merit grants of $6,000 for boarding candidates and $4,000 for day candidates will be awarded to select students entering the Academy in either the 9th or 10th grade. An award may be renewed each successive year a student attends Lake Forest Academy, provided that the student maintains high standards in our college preparatory program.
Testing
If you are applying for grades 9, 10 or 11, you must take the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT), ISEE or ERB and have the results sent to Lake Forest Academy. A December or January administration of these tests is preferred. If you would like information on how to register please refer to the SSAT [off-site link) or check the appropriate box when you return your application for admission.
If you are applying for grades 11 or 12, you should submit the results of your SAT I's, PSAT's or ACT's instead of SSAT's. Please have your school or Educational Testing Service send these results directly to Lake Forest Academy's Office of Admission.
Visiting
The best way to know if Lake Forest Academy is the right school for you is to spend part of a school day on campus. Student tour guides will show you the academic buildings, dorms and athletic facilities, take you to class and treat you to lunch. You will get to know our students, experience an LFA class, and meet teachers, coaches and club advisors.
We meet with prospective students and families Monday through Friday during school hours (8 a.m. to 3 p.m.). To arrange a "shadow day," a personal meeting with an admission officer to ask any question, call us at 847/615-3267 or email the admission office at info@lfanet.org.
