Academic Curriculum >Schedules

LFA has developed an innovative class schedule that rotates classes and allows for non-class time within each student’s school day. We divide our school year not by weeks, but by cycles, which feature seven school days (A Day, B Day, C Day, D Day, E Day, F Day and G Day). Classes meet at a different time on each day, occasionally for double or even triple periods. This schedule adds an energizing twist to each student’s school day and offers free periods to get a head start on homework, attend a club meeting, get extra help from a teacher or just hang out with friends. There are 8 class periods on each day (except for G Day) but students generally have two or three of those periods free. Classes generally do not meet on every day of the cycle. All students are required to take five courses, but some choose to enroll in six. Students with six courses will have less free time during the day.

Here’s how each cycle day looks:
A Day: A pretty standard day. For most students, all classes meet. Break from 10-10:30. The day begins with Morning Meeting at 8:15. Last periods ends at 3.

B Day: The big difference on this day is an all-school meeting from 10 to 10:45. The entire school meets in the chapel for a performance, lecture, presentation or some other item of interest to the entire school. The day begins with Advisory at 8:15. Last period ends at 3:15.

C Day: A standard day, with a break from 10-10:30. The day begins with Morning Meeting at 8:15. Last period ends at 3.

D Day: This is the one day each cycle that begins late, at 8:45. To make up for this, there is no break from 10- 10:30. The day begins with Advisory. Last period ends at 3.

E Day: A standard day. Break from 10-10:30. The day begins with Morning Meeting at 8:15. Last period ends at 3.

F Day: A standard day. Break from 10-10:30. The day begins with Morning Meeting at 8:15. Last period ends at 3.

G Day: This is a shortened school day. The day begins with Morning Meeting at 8:15. There is no break at 10, and last period ends at 1. The two-hour block between 1 and 3 is set aside for club meetings.

Athletic practices and games begin right after school, so most students remain on campus until at least 5 p.m. every day. All students are welcome to eat dinner in the dining hall.
