Student Life > Dress Code

The school dress code is in effect during the academic day. (It also applies at other special designated school functions.) Students are expected to understand that attire which reflects respect and seriousness of purpose is the goal of the dress code. Students should be neat, clean, and well-groomed at all times. Adherence to the following guidelines is required:

Boys
• button down dress shirt and tie (nice denim shirts with collar are permissible), tucked in at all times
• trousers (including corduroys) with a belt,
• socks and dress shoes, or nice sandals with socks
• Sweaters and jackets are optional on regular school days; however, boys are expected to have a jacket to wear
on formal occasions
• Denim, leather, or athletic pants, pants with pockets down the legs, pants which are frayed or ripped, sweatshirts, and athletic shoes and sneakers are not permitted

Girls
• dress or a skirt with a tucked-in blouse, dress shirt, turtleneck, or sweater (the dress/skirt should be of modest length, in any case the bottom of which should not be above the tips of the fingertips when arms are held down to the sides)
• dress shoes or dress sandals (no flip-flops)
• T-shirts; sweatshirts; strapless, tank, halter or spaghetti strap tops, lingerie style clothing (or any other immodest clothing), athletic shoes and sneakers are not permitted
• From the end of winter holiday to the beginning of spring vacation, girls are permitted to wear tailored dress slacks; this does not include denim pants, leggings, stirrup pants, etc. For formal occasions in winter, girls are expected to wear a skirt or dress outfit
Outside the academic day, students may wear clothing of their own choice as long as it is in good taste. All clothing should be in good condition, clean, and neat. For boys and girls, hats are not appropriate during the academic day (starting with breakfast), either in academic buildings or the dining hall; at casual evening meals and on weekends, students may wear hats inside.
